LHS at Rockwall Animal Adoption Center is a "no kill" facility - meaning that we will keep the animal in our adoption program for the remainder of his/her life, unless (1) the dog becomes ill and the vet recommends Euthanasia due to suffering that the vet is not able to treat or (2) if the dog is deemed unadoptable for reasons of aggression. Due to the high volume of animals at the facility, LHS at RAAC only services animals in the city of Rockwall and Heath. Any animals brought into the facility must be accompanied by a resident of Rockwall or Heath with a valid drivers license or proof of local residency. If you do not live in the areas we service, LHS at RAAC will not be able to intake your animal due to the rules governed by the city of Rockwall and Heath.
All microchip registration will be transferred to LHS upon acceptance into the adoption program. If the animal is not chipped, LHS will microchip the animal with LHS contact info. If the dog is not current on Heart Worm prevention, Heart Worm test, FIV test, Spay/Neuter, and vaccinations, these services will need to be completed upon intake to the LHS at RAAC adoption program; therefore any donations upon intake are greatly appreciated.
We encourage all animal owners to consider working with local rescue groups or networking with family and friends prior to bringing the animal into the adoption center. You can click HERE for a list of dog, rabbit, pig, ferret and hamster rescues and click HERE for a list of cat rescue groups in the area who might be able to take your animal into a foster home. Please note that communication with the rescue groups is best via email and should include all of the information in the form below as well as picture of the animal in need. Rescue groups are run by volunteers so your patience in the initial correspondence is greatly appreciated.
The other alternative to turning your animal into the shelter is to foster the animal until he/she is adopted. While fostering the animal, LHS at RAAC will provide food and crates as well as routine medical care (i.e. spay/neuter, vaccinations, HW test or FIV testing and microchipping). Click HERE to view the foster contract for more information about the foster program and expectations of the foster family. If you would like to foster your pet until he/she is adopted, please complete the Foster Application.
If you would still like to Owner Surrender your pet to LHS at RAAC, the process is as follows:
